Archetypes

Momenta Core Rules · Moment 2 · Characters · Chapter 07

A character is a collection of archetypes, and your character rank (CR) is the sum of all of your archetype ranks (R). Players that focus their character build on breadth (having ranks in many archetypes) will widen their options (more abilities, more mastery domain access), and players who focus on depth (taking an archetype to its maximum rank) unlock capstone abilities and the most powerful abilities.

Every archetype rank you hold is always considered active, no matter whether you only have one or two archetypes, or a bunch of them.

Types of Archetypes

TypeExamplesDescription
Ancestry ArchetypeHuman, Dwarf, Half-Elf, ElfThis represents your species, which is chosen at character creation. A character can only have one ancestry archetype. Most ancestry archetypes are capped at 3 ranks (although exotic ancestries may have a higher cap).
Basic Path ArchetypeWarrior, Scholar, Rogue, Barbarian, ChannelerThese represent your basic starting professions and classes. They may have attribute prerequisites, but they will always be obtainable by a starting character. Basic path archetypes are always capped at 3 ranks.
Specialist Path ArchetypeMagic Knight, NinjaThese are advanced archetypes with steeper prerequisites - usually requiring higher attribute minimums and one or more basic path archetypes realized. Specialist path archetypes may have a cap of 3 or more ranks.

Realizing an Archetype

An archetype at its maximum rank is considered as realized. Realizing an archetype unlocks its most powerful capstone abilities, and qualifies you to equip its Limit Breaks, as well as satisfy any specialist path archetypes that requires it as a prerequisite.
