Limit Breaks
A Limit Break is a signature ultimate maneuver. Performing a Limit Break is a full-turn maneuver.
Every character may equip a number of Limit Breaks based on the tier of play:
| Tier of Play | Limit Break Slots |
|---|---|
| Novice (Ranks 3-8) | 1 |
| Seasoned (Ranks 9-14) | 2 |
| Veteran (Ranks 15-20) | 3 |
| Paragon (Ranks 21+) | 4 |
Limit Breaks come in two categories, with a uniform access rule:
- General Limit Breaks are gated by core minimums (e.g., BODY 2). Any character who meets the prerequisite may equip them.
- Archetype Limit Breaks (path, specialist, and ancestry alike) unlock when that archetype is realized. They carry no attribute or core prerequisites.
You may equip any Limit Break whose prerequisites you meet. A character who doesn’t qualify for any Limit Breaks may simply hold an empty Limit Break slot until they qualify. Equipped Limit Breaks may be retrained during downtime, like masteries.
A Limit Break can be activated in one of two ways:
- A character can spend 3 Momentum. There is no additional Vigor cost.
- If a character is in Crisis, they can perform a Limit Break without spending Momentum. There is no additional Vigor cost, but the character gains the Exhausted condition immediately after the Limit Break is resolved. This option can only be used once per combat (refreshes at the next interlude).
